Movie lovers will enjoy the many clever references. Prepare to laugh out loud. A wild fantasy akin to Alice in Wonderland awaits.”
- Libby Belle Bryer, author of A Woman Always Knows and The Juicy Parts and other stories
The clever internet epistolary style fits the time period and characters and adds to the humour of the novel. The cast of characters, even ones who only show up briefly, are unique and original. Using our love of film, The Man Who Came to Rent is an ideal read for any movie lover who enjoys witty dialogue, intriguing mysteries, exciting adventures and original characters.

“The writing is solid, the voice interesting, and I think you know I dig the setting. It’s actually a pretty interesting concept to write about video stores (old school tech) in a blog format (less old school tech)… A cult that worships movies? Awesome.”
- Jeremy Hawkins, author of Last Days of Video

Hey Vic, great blog. Glad to see there’s a comments section. I read a book once, that was written as if it was a blog, with lots of funny comments. Have you ever thought of writing a book ?

Definite must read. An example of friendly foresight; I deleted all my social media and forgot to get your contact info!? Since experience in the movie store is required; how but this nugget. I will only argue through movie quotes of “Starship Troopers”. talk soon good sir.

Strange to reminisce about talking in a video store, I just re-watched Rushmore, on VHS, a low-budget arty film that begs commentary, and features awkward attempts to woo a would-be love interest.

I love Rushmore! I honestly think Max Fischer is one of the great characters in the history of film. His story is a lesson for us teachers – how can a genius flunk out?

Ah, because he was a flawed genius, and the flaw, pride, is what makes him the character he is. A funny one! You’re right though, it does make you wonder what school has to offer him.
